CKL has worked alongside CJ Architects providing environmental engineering solutions for several years, building a strong working relationship to provide the best outcomes for each client. Two of these projects have been within the education sector, one being a private early childhood centre and the other a satellite school with the Ministry of Education.
In 2017, Carla Jacobi from CJ Architects came to CKL with the development of an early childhood centre in Glenfield on Auckland’s North Shore. The Co-Star Early Learning Centre project involved the conversion of a residential dwelling into an ECE centre, to meet the demand of the growing population in the area.
The building was moved to a different location on the site to allow for carparking and a new vehicle crossing, and CKL assisted with groundwork and stormwater solutions (including detention tanks) as well as picking up liaison between the council and Auckland Transport.
“CKL are always very professional and dealt with the project in an efficient manner. Everybody was very happy, client included, once the project was complete in late 2021,” notes Carla.
The latest project sees CKL and CJ Architects partnering with the Ministry of Education Infrastructure team on a Special School establishment project. This involves the creation of a dedicated satellite school in Panmure, repurposing a block of two existing classrooms and adding a reception, meeting room, kitchen, bathrooms, shower and accessibility ramps.
This project aims to integrate the satellite school into the main school whilst creating a self-sufficient learning space, to cater for enrolment growth.
CKL’s contribution covers stormwater and sanitary drainage solutions including developing an overland flow path, designing detention and stormwater tanks, and groundwork and re-levelling to allow for a new playground and retaining walls.
