Constant sea movement and propeller wash from the ferries approaching and departing Auckland’s Ferry Terminal caused a large scour at the base of the sea wall supporting the historic building. CKL was engaged by Auckland Transport to monitor the safety and stability of the sea wall over a six-month period as critical repairs were conducted. We used specialist sensors to digitally monitor the sea wall as well as conventional survey equipment and methods to monitor settlement. Regular assessment and reporting provided contractors with reassurance to safely undertake their repair work, and provided Auckland Transport with confidence that the sea wall below the Ferry Building is stable and will continue to serve commuters, tourists and business patrons well into the future.
